Overcoming Productivity Walls

I’ll give you the secret sauce right now. Patience and persistence is how I recently overcame a barrier in my productivity. Sounds cliché, but this isn’t a corny “just push harder” story. Sit tight.

So, I just started summer classes last week, got my business license approved, running a podcast, running book club, and the list goes on. Like most people trying to get something accomplished in 2021; I’m doing a lot.

My way of not getting overwhelmed is focusing only on the task at hand (I promise you the cliché shit will stop in second). This works, but there’s always those tasks that come and mess up my flow. For the past couple of days, I have avoided the hell out of editing a video for my podcast.

The video was longer than our normal ones. The audio was messed up and needed adjustments, and it’s the last video in a series that I’ve been doing for over 6 weeks. Every time I tried to get into it I would find myself on my phone watching anime or laying on the floor staring at the ceiling.

Patience and persistence were the only things that got me through, but not in the way that you think. I’ve noticed that when I’m not in the rhythm to produce; I have a tendency to consume unnecessarily. This impulse is a result of stress.

Fight this impulse like crazy! Do nothing at all over consuming bad content, whether that be Netflix or actual food. When your productivity cycle swings back around you will be on a different level of creative flow.
